Overview

Engineers are in high demand in Australia, with many organisations struggling to fill their skilled roles. Even so, many engineers who received their qualifications overseas struggle to find work here in their field.

The Global Engineering Talent (GET) program is designed to bridge this gap, bringing Australian employers and global talent together in a way that benefits everyone.

This program is the key to unlocking rewarding employment in your field. It will equip you with the skills and experience you need to thrive in the Australian workplace.

Is this program for you?

Ideal for overseas qualified engineers with at least three years' work experience. You must read the eligibility criteria before you apply.

Program outline

The GET program is delivered in two parts, beginning with 6-weeks of live-facilitated and self-paced online learning designed to simulate an Australian engineering project. From there, the you will embark on a 12-week paid work placement in your field, gaining valuable local experience.

Across the 18-weeks, your get the opportunity to cover a range of topics with a specifically Australian lens. Themes include:

  • The Australian workplace
  • Contract work: problem, solution, and evaluation
  • Presentation of engineering solutions
  • Engineering-focused English language

Outcomes and inclusions

Throughout the program, you'll have access to a mentor from Engineers Australia and as well as a free year (12-months) of Engineers Australia membership, to support ongoing learning and connection with Australia’s engineering community.

Upon successful completion of the program, you will have local experience to add to your CV and be in a great position to apply for a job in your field.

You'll also be able to apply to be assessed for an Engineers Australia Micro-credential on Local Engineering Knowledge.

How to apply

To successfully apply for and be selected, you'll need to complete the following steps:

  1. Check eligibility criteria
  2. Complete the expression of interest (EOI) form and upload your CV
  3. Start the Career Starter Program (CSP) from program partner, Career Success Australia
  4. You’ll be matched with and interviewed by a local business if your skills and experience meet their requirements
  5. If successful, you’ll receive an offer

Queensland clean energy places

We have partnered with the Queensland government to fund 20 GET program places for clean energy related roles.

This funding is part of the Clean Energy Workforce Roadmap to secure the skilled workforce requirements to meet the state’s targets of 70 per cent renewable energy by 2032 and 80 per cent by 2035.

To be considered, you must apply for the GET Program by 14 June 2024.
