Motivating students to pursue STEM careers with real-world experience.

The Day of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is an online program designed to inspire students to pursue STEM careers, by providing a firsthand look at the fields they're most interested in. Students get to experience a day in the life of a professional, granting them invaluable insights into the life that awaits them.

STEM industry expertise

Over 15 Australian companies have collaborated on the design and implementation of this cloud-based platform, delivering an interactive experience that allows students to test out a career at one of these companies.

The platform is called LifeJourney and it tracks students’ progress in the form of 'journeys'. Mentors from each company provide input into the journeys, infusing each one with real insights from industry leaders and ensuring students gain true-to-life experiences.

The engineering journey

Students learn from videos, interactive question and answer sessions and skill-based experiences. These activities immerse students in projects and tasks that provide a real-world dimension to their understanding of engineering.

Students can explore careers such as mobile app development, data science and risk analysis. They can even test-drive the daily life of an executive by taking the journey of a CTO or CIO. As the program progresses in years to come more journeys will be added, offering an even greater wealth of experience to Australian students.

Through the exploration of engineering journeys, students gain a fresh perspective on the fields they are drawn to. A complement to their technical studies, a sense of daily activity and future work/life balance is an exciting feeling for career-driven students.

Engineered insights

LifeJourney assesses student performance, granting further insight into their chosen occupation. The platform also presents participants with information on their journey’s mentor. This complements the feedback the platform offers on their own performance and interests, allowing them to correlate their attributes to those of industry leaders.

Designed to be a 'career simulation experience', the platform grants a unique depth of knowledge to participating students. Their understanding of their future as a STEM professional changes from one of imagining to one of real-world awareness and this gives them the foresight needed to continue or alter their direction.

The Day of STEM is available to schools and students at no cost. While there is a pre-registration and registration schedule there is also flexibility; the program can be run at any time throughout the school year.
