Engineers Australian UK held their annual summer event at The Oval Cricket Ground to watch Day 1 of Surrey vs Hampshire County Cricket match
After a wet start and on the same day as Day 5 of England vs Australia at The Lords, EAUK came together for our annual summer event. This year it was held at The Oval Ground to watch a County Cricket Test match between Surrey vs Hampshire.
Since it’s opening in 1845, The Oval has become one of the world's most iconic sports grounds as well as having a big part in the origin of the Ashes. We watched the game from the OCS - Stand Roof Terrace (on the third floor) which had great views of the pitch, main pavilion and South London.
After a BBQ lunch we walked through the doors where Don Bradman walked out to play his last innings in Test cricket on the 14th August 1948, these are now called “The Bradman Doors”. We visited the museum and learnt about the origins of the game of cricket.
During the play for we were allowed to walk on the field and get a real feel of the turf.
Thanks to all EA and NZEng members for coming along and sharing in a great day out, and for the chapter committee for organising the event.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at next year’s summer event.
