Engineers Australia has today announced the appointment of Dr Nick Fleming as National President and Board Chair.
With an honours degree in civil and environmental engineering and a doctorate in sustainable infrastructure systems from the University of Adelaide, Dr Fleming has held local, global and industry leadership roles and received multiple awards for technical excellence, leadership and innovation.
Engineers Australia CEO, Dr Bronwyn Evans, said Dr Fleming was well placed to lead the organisation on to the next stage in its development.
“Nick brings 25 years' professional experience in the private and public sectors. He has worked across infrastructure, natural resources, water, mining, energy and defence sectors in Australia and overseas. He has also contributed to industry as a director of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) and is a non-executive director of South Gippsland Water,” said Dr Evans.
Dr Evans praised departing Chair Chris Champion, who has stepped down after a year in the role.
“We thank Chris for his significant contribution to Engineers Australia during his time as the National President and as Chair of the board. He was pivotal in finalising our strategy 2020-2023 and has overseen a number of significant projects, including a review of the learned societies and the launch of our successful industry leaders climate change roundtable,” she said.
Joining the board for 2021 is Dr Kourosh Kayvani, ex global Managing Director – Design, Innovation & Eminence of Aurecon.
Dr Kayvani is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE). He is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, UNSW, and a Director of Australian Steel Institute (ASI). He was also the winner of the 2016 John Connell Gold Medal from the Engineers Australia Structural College.
Dr Kayvani joins returning board members Lucia Cade, Hurol Inan, Dr Raj Aseervatham, Dr Marcus Thompson and the Hon Trish White.
