This event will focus on the cyber-security experiences of field consultants and large regulated organisations, and also give insights from academia.

The aim is to provide:
 
• knowledge of best practice from renowned experts in the field
• lessons from which to benefit and pitfalls to avoid
• increased awareness of the challenges presented by cyber-security
• continuing professional development for practising engineers
• a networking opportunity for information technology professionals an interactive Q&A session.

Session 1
 
Stuart Strathdee (CRISC, CISM): Challenges for Highly Regulated Organisations

Stuart will report on cyber-security challenges and approaches to manage them, in large regulated organisations.
Stuart is Head of Security, Compliance and IT Operations at NSW Land Registry Services.  He has been head of cyber defence with NBN Co Ltd and Chief Security Advisor to Microsoft Australia.
He's also appeared as an expert before many parliamentary commissions.

Edward Farrell (B.InfoTech, CRT,CISSP,SSCP): Cyber Security ‒ Theory and the Perspective from Industry

Edward will present the field consultant’s perspective of cyber security.
Edward is Director and Principal Consultant at Mercury Information Security Services. He has over five years’ experience in the information security industry and ten years’ experience in the IT industry.  He is a specialist in penetration testing of organisations’ IT systems.

Professor Vijay Varadharajan(FBCS, FIEE, FIMA, FIEAust, FACS): Concepts and Variables that Cyber-Security Practitioners Can Use

Vijay will present three key cyber security concepts critical to cyber security engineers.  Vijay is Global Innovation Chair in Cyber Security and Director of the Advanced Cyber Security Engineering Research Centre (ACSRC) at the University of Newcastle.
 
He was previously Microsoft Chair Professor in Innovation in Computing at Macquarie University (2001-2017) and headed Worldwide Security Research for HP Labs in Bristol, UK (1988-1995)
