About the event

This event will discuss the general engineering principles of designing in Brick Faced Precast concrete panels with case study examples.

This event will focus on building awareness and understanding of the benefits of brick faced precast concrete building solutions to increase speed of construction, increase efficiency on site, improve design, reduce costs, and provide best practice outcomes for engineers and other stakeholders.

Keynote and panel speakers will share insights into the benefits of using brick faced precast panels over standard brick laying via case study examples and explain why precast a preferable building system for high rise/multi-level construction is in particular.

We will discuss the practical implications of using precast concrete panel construction, with an overview of projects that have used the products and the challenges/advantages this product offered from a design and construction perspective.

Discussions will outline how to design in precast panels, the principles of ‘design for manufacturability and assembly’, as well as how precast concrete can achieve a reduction in both material costs and construction time can be achieved for the client. Speakers will also discuss benefits in terms of greater strength, ability to engineer components to support structure, strong structural connections, and greater design flexibility that precast concrete can offer.

Speakers

Deen Suleman, Project Manager, McNab

Deen Suleman graduated Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Rand Afrikaans University 2004 before working as a Site Project Engineer on civil and building projects in South Africa.

He has been working in the Australian construction industry for 14 years, the last 12 as a Project Manager working on predominantly commercial and multi residential projects in Toowoomba, Townsville and Brisbane.

Most recently Deen has been working on Design and Construct projects where the PM is required to take the lead in the Design process as well. His engineering background and construction experience helps balance the requirements of all parties in finding effective economical solutions for technical problems encountered on site or during design.

Elisa Hernandez

Elisa Hernandez Montero, Senior Engineer, Arup NSW/ACT

Having worked in Arup’s London, Hong Kong and Sydney offices, Elisa is a Senior Engineer with skills in façade design and project management for a wide range of international projects, which span commercial, residential and arts and culture sectors, and incorporating a wide range of construction materials and systems. She uses this knowledge and experience to ensure project-specific solutions.

Elisa has experience on projects at different stages of design, construction, and in-use, with special focus on performance compliance within commercial limits. With her understanding of key performance aspects affecting the façade design, she is able to effectively collaborate with other engineers, consultants and specialists in the project.
