About the event
YEA WA invites you to tap into the knowledge of our experienced engineers at our upcoming mentoring breakfast.
This breakfast will expose you to a diverse cohort of engineers keen to share their career journeys and insights to help you progress in your career. We have representation from a range of industry backgrounds from local government to the private sector.
Why should you seek out mentoring?
Building a relationship with someone who has walked in your footsteps is the goal of mentoring.
As a young engineer this can help you:
- Navigate the workplace: It is difficult transitioning from university to the workplace. Although you may possess the requisite technical abilities, having an advocate on your side makes it easier to adjust to a new environment and overcome obstacles in your career rather than figuring it out on your own.
- Expand your network: Mentors can connect you with other professionals and make recommendations to help you advance in your career.
- Improve your skills: Engaging with a mentor allows you to observe their thought process and gain practical experience that will help you develop your capabilities.
- Encourage you to improve: It's not easy to be challenged, but if you want to enhance your skills and advance in your career, you need someone who will be honest with you, and mentors are someone who will expect and encourage the best from you.
How will this event run?
Breakfast will kick off from 7:00am, with networking opportunities followed by a keynote presentation from a mentor.
We will then have a 45-minute session, allowing you to network and speak to our mentors as you rotate around the tables. This will provide the opportunity for you to learn from our mentors and potentially lead to a longer-term mentoring relationship.
Who should attend
Engineering professionals or students under 35 or have less than 5 years’ experience in the engineering profession.
