EAQC CEO Panel Discussion

Start time: 6.30pm Doha time. Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter (EAQC) will be hosting a CEO Panel Discussion with the theme: Road to 2022 – Delivering Excellence. The event will be attended by H.E. Australian Ambassador to Qatar as Guest of Honour.

OVERVIEW

 
This CEO Panel discussion, being the first face to face event as the Covid restriction starts to ease and borders re-opening, will have 4 distinguished leaders who will share their respective stories on their career developments, successes, and challenges.
 
The discussion will focus mainly on the theme of the evening, especially the opportunities realised, and challenges faced while delivering projects ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
 
The panellist will debate on topics which includes executive time management, learning and development opportunities for engineers in Qatar and business outlook in the short, medium, and long-term. The conversation includes the most expensive mistakes made, what it takes to be a leader and how to go about making effective decisions once you’re at the top.
 
The panel discussion will be moderated by Mr. Asif Rahmany, Deputy President of Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter. 
 
Attendees are expected to be fully engaged during the discussion and are encouraged to raise questions to the panel during the Q&A.

Bassam is the Regional General Manager of GHD in Qatar branch and has over thirty years of civil and environmental engineering experience mainly in water infrastructure and network operations management. Bassam’s key experience area includes: Water networks – Operational planning, Control and benchmarking, Water infrastructure planning studies, Water supply modelling, Firefighting assessment and studies, Water quality & public health management, Water networks vulnerability and reliability assessment, Emergency response planning for water infrastructure, Leakage and pressure, Management studies, Water demand management studies, Design of water infrastructure, Project management

Andre Fourie is a dedicated Engineering professional and Professional Engineer with more than 22 years’ experience in Design & Project management of both Infrastructure and Built Environment projects in South Africa, Africa and the Middle East of which 14 years are in the GCC and North Africa environment.
 
Andre has been responsible for the management of projects from both design and construction perspective for various government and non-governmental entities.
In the Middle East, Andre has successfully managed various projects in the Built and Infrastructure Environment and is currently the Country Leader for Zutari in Qatar
Andre is passionate about service excellence, innovation, supporting the next generation of leaders and making the complex simple.  His favorite saying is: “how do you eat an elephant….one bite at a time”

Omar Bahgat
Vice President and Regional

Omar Bahgat is the Vice President and Regional Manager of Engineering Consultants Group (ECG). He graduated from Cairo University and holds a master’s degree in Civil Engineering. He has more than 33 years of experience in the fields of regional operations, business development, project management, with extended experience in the design and operation of large water and wastewater systems. 
He served as board member in ECG and has been responsible of the operations in Qatar and Oman since March 2012. During this period, ECG has successfully delivered several prestigious projects, including the Qatar New Emiri Naval Base, the Banana Island, Al Duhail Stadium, and the training pitches for FIFA 2022.
 
Previously, Omar was the Water Manager in GHD Qatar from August 2004 until March 2012, he also served as the Middle East Technical Coordinator for Water and Wastewater Systems. During this period, he was leading GHD design team in several major Projects in Qatar, Australia, and the UAE, including the Melborne Desalination Project, JAFZA Jabal Ali in Dubai, and KAHRAMAA Water Quality Standards in Qatar.
He assumed several roles in the engineering fields including Consultancy, Contracting, and Client Representative. He has worked in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, and Australia, with a tracked record of successful projects.

Oussama El Jerbi

Mr. Jerbi has a and a renowned executive in the construction industry with multidisciplinary background. He began is construction career with Consolidated Contractor Company (CCC) in Yemen in 1990 where he was involved in Buildings as well as Oil & Gas projects delivery. In 1995, he transferred to the CCC’s head office in Athens-Greece where he took roles on various projects and tenders in various countries as a Senior Project Coordinator in the Construction Support division. In 2002, he completed Master of Engineering Science degree in Construction Management from University of New South Wales Australia and soon after he migrated to Australia and started working with McConnell Dowell Constructors as Controls Manager. In 2005, he transferred to work with Bluescope Steel in Indonesia and in 2006 he rejoined CCC Qatar as Project Manager to lead the construction of LNG Mega Trains and subsequently managed various Oi & Gas projects. In 2008 he completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration from University of Leicester UK. In 2017 he was appointed the Area Managing director of CCC in Qatar.
