Overview
About the event
Join us for this webinar and hear from global experts who will share insights into the future of performance-based fire modelling to optimise performance. Our speakers will discuss case studies of recent times that highlight the critical issue of performance-based fire modelling in engineering compliance and design. You will hear from industry experts who will discuss the latest regulations, research and challenges facing engineers with regards to fire modelling and will provide insights into the various performance-based materials and methods that are fit-for-purpose for the engineering profession and community. Our presenters will discuss how to apply optimal performance methodologies to protective coatings, as well as the new International and Australian standards (AS4100) for testing and certification of intumescent coatings for fire compliance, as required by NCC.
Who should attend
This webinar is relevant for Fire Engineers working across building, construction, and other relevant industries.
You do not need to be an Engineers Australia member to attend.
Speakers
Dr Cristian Maluk, MIEAust, Astute Fire, UK
Dr Cristian Maluk is Technical Director at Astute Fire (UK) and holds Senior Lecturer in the School of Civil Engineering at The University of Queensland (Australia). His research and teaching activities are centred in fire safety engineering, structural engineering, timber engineering, and varied topics related to material science.
Cristian’s research outcomes in fire safety science and engineering have received internationally attention, embodied by novel methods used for better understanding the behaviour of materials and structures in the event of a fire. He is currently actively involved in several international technical committees and working groups.
His success in research projects and capacity to produce outcomes at a markedly increasing rate has resulted in a total of 115+ papers of which 40+ are in peer-reviewed international journals.
Past projects lead by Cristian include several industry driven consultancies in fire safety and structural engineering, and a couple dozen research-driven and product development projects. Also, Cristian has worked in forensic investigations and have acted as expert witness and litigation consultant, including the post-fire structural assessment of the Abu-Dhabi Plaza fire in Kazakhstan, probably the biggest ever fire of a building under construction.
Roger Tobler, Business Development Manager for Intumescent, Dulux Protective Coatings
Roger Tobler is a technical sales and project management specialist with 11 years in the Intumescent industry across South Africa and Australia. He graduated from Technikon Witwatersrand (South Africa) with a diploma in Mechanical Engineering and worked in an engineering manufacturing business for 5 years. In 2010, he brought his methodical mindset to his next role in PPG Protective Coatings in South Africa and his key responsibility was to support the specifications, sales, and applicator training for both cellulosic and hydrocarbon intumescent coatings. He has been working in the Protective Coatings and Intumescent space ever since.
During his time with Dulux Protective Coatings, Roger applied his project management and technical customer service skills as a technical sales representative in Newcastle and is currently the Business Development Manager for Intumescent for Dulux Protective Coatings.
Sukhi Sendanayake, MIEAust NER, Fire Assessment Engineer, Warringtonfire Australia
Sukhi Sendanayake is a fire assessment engineer with Warringtonfire Australia, based in Brisbane. With an extensive knowledge of Australian fire testing and assessment standards, she provides fire assessments for passive fire protection of structural components and systems, demonstrating compliance with the performance requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC). Specialising in fire protection of structural steel, she has worked with numerous Australian and international clients delivering both product- and project-specific fire assessment reports and consultancy advice relating to passive fire protection.
She holds a BSc in Engineering (Hons) from Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand, and a PhD from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane.
