Queensland committee’s female focus for 2022

With a majority of female members for 2022, led by President Marie Gales, the Queensland Committee is planning events and initiatives to support women in engineering.

This International Women’s Day the Queensland Division Committee has announced it will be working closely with all regional committees in the state to deliver a series of female led events hosted around International Women in Engineering Day in June.

These events aim to raise the profile of our female engineers and gain a better understanding of any regional differences in their experiences.

Tomorrow the committee is hosting an invite only lunch ‘Women of Industry – Engineering Executives and Honorary Fellows’. The lunch is a chance to discuss this year’s UN International Women’s Day theme, ‘Changing Climates: equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’. The theme recognises the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are working to change the climate of gender equality and build a sustainable future. The event will bring together senior leaders and new graduates for a discussion to inform the ongoing initiatives of the division.

This year the Queensland committee is committed to embedding female engineering voices in its advocacy work. In line with Engineers Australia’s strategic priority of ‘impactful leadership’, this commitment aims to support and grow the diversity of the engineering profession.

A series of roundtables are being planned by the committee, looking at how the Queensland engineering community can respond to our climate change statement. Engineering experts will be sought from Queensland’s regional and technical groups to provide advice and to shape our response efforts and the committee is encouraging a diverse range of voices to join these talks.

Committee President Marie Gales says she’s truly excited to be President with such and inspiring team standing with her.

“I look forward to being part of the discussions about gender, sustainability and our continued contribution to the UN Sustainability Goals,” she says.
