Improving Efficiency and Reducing Costs through Effective Facility Management

Engineer’s Australia Qatar Chapter hosted a technical talk titled “Improving Efficiency and Reducing Costs through Effective FM” on Monday the 26th August 2019 at WSP Consultancy office at the Gate Bay, Tower 2, West Bay, Doha.

Mustafa Adra conducted the talk, he is the former president of EA Qatar chapter, the project director at MOSANADA with over 22 years of experience in FM and industrial maintenance in Australasia and the Middle East.

A nice mix of professions came together to hear about how design, construction and operations/maintenance impacts the overall costs of the asset life itself.  The talk commenced with an introduction to the FM field and gradually progressed towards FM market trends in Qatar and then various approaches of efficiency considerations for implementing cost reductions. In addition to that, case studies were discussed showing comparisons of the local electrical consumption ranging from January 2016 to June 2019, the strategies used to reduce utility costs and another study portrayed how to reduce costs by performing smart preventive maintenance.

In the closing remarks, Mr. Mustafa Adra presented key points about having joint innovation strategies in the future for delivering projects with optimum FM cost reductions, long term contracts and service packages outsourcing with users and facility managers.

The Q&A session was interesting and informative, it cleared many technical doubts and queries from the attendees in relation to local and international FM strategies. Attendees with none or little FM knowledge learnt a lot and if they are considering transitioning to the FM field then this talk was a great start.

Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter would like to thank our speaker Mr. Mustafa Adra for this informative and inspiring technical talk, EA wish Mustafa all the best in his next endeavor, as Mustafa is leaving Qatar and back to Sydney after 11 years of service. Moreover, we would like to thank our attendees and WSP Consultancy which facilitated the venue.
