Regional Engineering Showcase: exploring and celebrating regional engineering

This November Engineers Australia and the Bendigo Regional Group are excited to celebrate regional engineering at the Regional Engineering Showcase.

Following on from the World Engineering Convention as a Guided Technical Tour, the Showcase will see engineers come together from across the state to engage with the region’s vibrant engineering community.

Over two days, guests will be given exclusive insight into the breadth and impact of the multi-disciplinary field in the heart of Bendigo and its regions through a range of site tours, professional based presentations and lectures.

Themed ‘Anything is possible: Past, present and future of regional engineering’, the weekend will appeal to engineers of all disciplines, with site tour streams focusing on infrastructure, mining, manufacturing and defence.

In addition to the tours, which will include sites such as Bendigo Tramways, Thales Bendigo, and the recently modernized Bendigo Hospital, guests will hear from distinguished speakers through a series of professional based presentations, lectures and a public forum to close out the weekend.

The public forum, open to local industry and community, will explore strategies to enhance future liveability in expanding regional cities, with topics spanning infrastructure, transport, economics, and sustainability – to name a few.

With the panel's distinguished speakers including Professor Veena Sahajwalla, Director of the cutting edge Sustainable Materials Research and Technology (SMaRT) Centre at UNSW Sydney, and Peter Seamer, former CEO of the Victorian Planning Authority and author of Breaking Point: The Future of Australian Cities, the forum is sure to be a highlight.

An Engineering Leadership Dinner will be held on the Saturday night at the All Seasons Hotel. Over the three-course dinner, guests will hear from a distinguished keynote speaker, to be confirmed, and enjoy the opportunity to celebrate engineering leadership and network with peers.

For Craig Watkins, Chair of Engineers Australia Bendigo Regional Group, the Showcase is an opportunity for engineers from a range of disciplines and backgrounds to come together and reflect on the state and future of regional engineering.

‘The weekend will provide an opportunity for networking with like-minded professionals, exposure to an array of interesting regional companies, and an opportunity to consider how we can collectively engineer a sustainable regional future’, said Watkins.

‘We hope you can join us in being inspired by the past, celebrating engineering excellence, contemplating the engineering future, and displaying regional engineering strength to the community.’

With the weekend an opportunity to expand both your networks and your knowledge of the past, present and future of regional engineering, make sure you secure your place at this special event.

The Regional Engineering Showcase will take place on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 November in Bendigo.
