Undergraduate Project Presentation (UPP) Competition

On 27 August, the Young Engineers committee and the Canberra Division hosted the Undergraduate Project Presentation (UPP) competition at the Novotel in the city.  The event was attended by over 60 supporters and industry leaders to watch the next generation of engineers present their project in 3 minutes to our sponsors and judges, Catherine Jones (PwC), Kevin Earle (GHD), and Graham Knight (Jacobs).

Ten undergraduate presenters were selected from across ANU, UC and UNSW who made it incredibly hard for the judges, the quality of presentations was extremely high and subject matter varied.  After deliberations, the announcements were made:

Winner of 2019 UPP was Karyn Xie from UNSW Canberra who presented on ‘Consolidation Behaviour of Canberra’s Municipal Solid Waste with Leachate Treatment’.  Second place Nicholas Eberl, UNSW Canberra who presented on ‘Acoustic Classification of UAV’s.  Third place went to Matt Forgan, also from UNSW Canberra who presented on ‘LiDAR assisted navigation with haptic feedback for people who are visually impaired’.  The crowd favourite went to Jonathan McPhail from ANU who presented on ‘Incorporating Indigenous Knowledge in Engineering Eduction’.

Thank you to everyone who supported and participated in this event.  Special thanks to our sponsors PwC, GHD and Jacobs.
