Engineers Australia members take out awards

The University of New South Wales has held its prestigious awards and scholarships evening. The Women in Engineering category was a standout with senior Engineers Australia office bearers taking out awards.

The Women in Engineering awards were designed to recognise the amazing achievement of women engineers who are inspiring, mentoring and proving to be role models for the next generation.

Engineers Australia CEO Romilly Madew AO attended the UNSW 2023 Engineering Awards and Scholarships evening, representing Engineers Australia and presenting almost 70 scholarships.  

Ms Madew addressed the audience and the many students in the room and said “engineers are problem solvers as well as innovators, change makers and influencers. 

“While completing your engineering degree, make sure you also focus on developing your soft skills including communication, collaboration, governance, teamwork and empathy.” 

The Women in Engineering Awards went to: 

The Maria Skyllas-Kazacos Early Career Award for Outstanding achievement. 
Recipient: Dr Fatemeh Salehi. 

The Judy Raper Award for Leadership.  
Recipient: Professor Olivia Mirza, FIEAust CPEng NER

The Ada Lovelace Medal. 
Recipient: Dr Marlene Kanga AO HonFIEAust CPEng EngExec NER 

(with highly commended: Dr Jennifer Purdie).

Ms Madew said “showcasing these amazing women ahead of International Women in Engineering Day was very special."
